Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program Education Provider and ISSUP pioneer member, Serenity in the Steps, hosted a 6 day Universal Treatment Curriculum training for three major Philippine City Anti-Drug Abuse Councils from October 7-12, 2019. Makati city, Cebu city, and the Municipality of Agoo stakeholders participated in two of the first of a series of UTC trainings that would equip their respective community based recovery programs with evidence based tools.

ISSUP Philippines Representatives Attend 56th National Convention of the Philippine Psychological Association

The Philippine Psychological Association (PAP) hosted its 56th National Convention in Davao City last September 18 – 20, 2019. The theme of the conference was Inclusive Psychology: Valuing Diversity and Accommodation among Filipinos. ISSUP Philippines representatives were present at the event.

Community Response to the Initiation of Smoking in Indonesian Early Adolescents

Prevalence of smoking in Indonesia is on the increase. The trend is particularly noticeable among Indonesian adolescents with smoking in early adolescents increasing from 9.5 to 17.5% from 2001 to 2010.

A recent study, published in the International Journal of Adolescence and Youth, has examined initiation of smoking by adolescents and the responses to initiation by the community.

Participants included school nurses, junior high school teachers, early adolescents, and their parents.

On analysis of the interviews several themes became apparent:
