International Association for the Study of Pain

Shared by Kenneth Finn - 30 March 2021

"Reviews of preclinical research and clinical safety and efficacy of cannabis and cannabinoids for pain relief have identified important research gaps. Due to the lack of high-quality clinical evidence, the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) does not currently endorse current use of cannabis and cannabinoids for pain relief. International Association for the Study of Pain recognises the pressing need for preclinical and clinical studies to fill the research gap, and for education on this topic."

Marijuana still not helping the opioid epidemic

Kenneth Finn - 26 January 2021

Given the US has seen yet another record of opioid overdose deaths, it is more apparent that marijuana is not helping.

Increased deaths strongly correlates with more states legalizing for medical and recreational purposes

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/p1218-overdose-deaths-covid-19.html

The preliminary data from CDPHE for 2020 (4th quarter numbers will likely go up once finalized in a few months) is almost unbelievable.

Compared to 2019 alone, in one year in Colorado there has been:

Prescription opioid deaths  78.5% increase

Fentanyl deaths: 110.9% increase

Cocaine deaths: 44...

Toxins in Marijuana Smoke May Be Harmful to Health, Study Finds

Smoking weed may expose people to the same type of toxic chemicals found in tobacco smoke, a new study finds. People who only smoked marijuana had higher blood and urine levels of several smoke-related toxins such as naphthalene, acrylamide and acrylonitrile than nonsmokers.

Marijuana smoke contains some of the same toxicants present in tobacco smoke. Marijuana smoking is prevalent among HIV+ individuals, but few studies have characterized smoke-related toxicants or associated health outcomes in exclusive marijuana users.
