Subst Abuse Treat Prev Policy 17, 66 (2022). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13011-022-00494-y
Background
There is a higher prevalence of substance use disorder (SUD) among justice-involved children (JIC). It is critical to ensure that JIC who report current use are referred for SUD assessment and potentially life-saving treatment services. Prior research suggests that certain minoritised groups may be less likely to have ever been referred for screening, and research on intersectionality suggests that these disparities may be exacerbated for racially minoritised females.

Multivariate logistic regression and interaction effects were employed to analyse longitudinal data from...
Hall, K., Higgins, F., Beach, K.F. et al. Disruptions to U.S. local public health’s role in population-based substance use prevention and response during COVID-19. Subst Abuse Treat Prev Policy 17, 73 (2022). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13011-022-00499-7
Background
COVID-19 dramatically limited the scale and scope of local health department (LHD) work, redirecting resources to the response. However, the need for essential public health services—including substance use prevention—was not reduced.
Methods
Six quantitative data sources were examined, collected between 2016 and 2021, to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on LHD substance use-related services.
Results
Before the pandemic, the proportion of LHDs providing some level of substance use prevention services was increasing, and many were expanding their level of provision...

The Canadian Community Epidemiology Network on Drug Use (CCENDU) is a pan-Canadian network of community partners co-ordinated by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA). The network has sites in British Columbia, Manitoba, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
In April 2019, CCENDU published a bulletin on changes in stimulant use and related harms, which focused on methamphetamine and cocaine* based on data collected by CCENDU sites in November 2018: Changes in Stimulant Use and Related Harms: Focus on Methamphetamine and Cocaine.1 The...

Background
The COVID-19 emergency has tested the public health, medical, and public safety infrastructure of the United States (U.S.) in unprecedented ways. As the focal point for public health in their communities, local health departments (LHDs) were particularly impacted by the pandemic’s onset. The pandemic limited the scale and scope of local health department (LHD) work, redirecting resources to the response. However, the need for essential public health services—including substance use prevention—was not reduced.

BACKGROUND:
Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) generate an aerosol by vaporising e-liquids that usually consist of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), and other ingredients (water, nicotine, and flavours). The chemical and physical properties of these components have a significant effect on aerosol formation and must be identified in order to improve product attractiveness and assess the degree of health risks.
AIM:
The aim of this article is to provide a description of the composition of the e-liquid base and its impact on the physical properties of the liquid used...
Canada’s Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines were originally published by CCSA in November 2011 and were the result of the work of alcohol research experts in Canada. Since then, substantial new research on the association between alcohol use and physical, mental and social harms has been completed. Many countries have updated their guidance on drinking to reflect these advancements in what is known about the risks and benefits associated with alcohol consumption.
The report is composed of three documents: the Public Summary, the Technical Summary and the Technical Report.
