Senior Program Officer at the NAM Leadership Consortium
The National Academy of Medicine's Leadership Consortium for a Value & Science-Driven Health System (the NAM Consortium) provides a trusted venue for leaders in stakeholder organizations important to health progress to work cooperatively toward their common commitment to effective, innovative health initiatives that consistently add value to patients and families, communities, and society. Members working together to address these problems represent the leadership from core stakeholder organizations: regulators, clinicians, patients, health care organizations, employers, manufacturers, insurers, health information technology, researchers, and policy makers.
The NAM Consortium works in three broad domains: science, culture, and value. It is seeking a Senior Program Officer of exceptional talent, flexibility, and the health policy expertise to help improve the pace of progress in achieving better health at lower cost. The incumbent should be an astute and experienced participant in the science, policy, and economics of a high value health system. The selected candidate will have comfortable working facility with convening activities, publications, and maintaining strong connections with field leaders. Applicants should have superlative leadership and project management skills, a proven ability to direct and delegate to a junior staff team, and a strong track record of success in stewarding complex, high visibility, and occasionally high stakes projects. Applicants are also expected to have exceptional writing skills, strategic instincts, and appreciation for detail. A graduate degree is required, and a doctoral-level degree is preferred.
The Senior Program Officer is responsible for developing and managing highly complex programs or projects. Develops program or project strategy and budget, staffing requirements and ensures the program/project meets its stated objectives. Serves as liaison between the Consortium and Collaborative project participants, the National Academies, and other applicable parties. Independently supervises staff. Develops prospectuses and projects and negotiates funding with sponsors.
Requiring advanced knowledge, incumbent performs work primarily intellectual and/or analytical in character. The job’s primary focus is either on leading collaborative activities and projects or managing other types of programs. Establishes processes and procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operation of a complex function. Has authority to take whatever action deemed advisable or necessary, subject only to organizational and departmental policies and rules. Has full supervisory responsibilities, including hiring, training, and performance management for assigned staff. Provides innovative solutions to complex problems that impact program's or project’s success. Reports directly to the Executive Director of the Leadership Consortium.
