Communications & Marketing Officer
Location: Remote, applicants must be based within UTC to UTC+2 time zones
Hours: 3 / 4 days a week (22.5 / 30hrs)
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum*, full time equivalent pro-rated to reflect number of working hours, dependent upon experience and location.
*Based upon UK based salary – will be adjusted based upon location

Role Summary
This role is key to communicating our work, growing our membership, and ensuring ISSUP’s voice is engaging and accessible worldwide.
The postholder will be responsible for co-creation and implementation of the communications strategy to grow and support ISSUP members via social media communications, website & newsletter content plus printed assets.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be part of a Website & Communications team contributing to the tasks below.
1. General:
- Create and implement the communications strategy
- Create and circulate the ISSUP newsletters
- Create ISSUP’s marketing materials
- Write and promote ISSUP news stories
- Create video / multimedia content
- Manage ISSUP’s social media accounts (Facebook, X & Linkedin)
- Increase members’ engagement via strong social media posts and interaction
- Monitor and assess communications data for reporting and improvements to ISSUP’s communications.
- Ensure ISSUP’s brand is appropriately presented across all external and internal communications
- Manage photo libraries and ensure rights compliance
- Maintain and update brand/style guidelines
- As a small team, we work closely together and appreciate contributions to other aspects of our work plan as and when required.
2. Website:
- Manage and regularly update ISSUP website content: Write, edit, coordinate and publish engaging and high-quality content for our members and other important stakeholders
- Build relationships with content contributors to encourage their participation
- Join website meetings to review progress and contribute to development
3. ISSUP Events:
- Support the creation of ISSUP event marketing materials and documents (e.g. flyers, presentations, programme booklet, certificates, etc.) for in-person events and webinarS
- Create and implement event communications strategy
- Coordinating with the events team and the National Chapter team to put out conference and programme information
- Provide on-site event coverage, including live social media updates, photography, and short video recordings to highlight key moments and increase audience engagement
- Potential to attend in person events to undertake communications and represent ISSUP
- Draft and issue press releases
4. ISSUP National Chapters:
- Promote the National Chapters via ISSUP communications
- Support National Chapters to produce communications
5. ISSUP Membership:
- Respond to communications with members on social media
Skills and Experience:
Working as part of a small team, you will be enjoy working within a team environment as well as being confident to work independently on tasks and projects. You will be an outstanding communicator with a proven ability to translate complex information into engaging content. Some knowledge of drug demand reduction or related healthcare fields would be helpful for this role but is not essential.
- 2-3 years’ experience of working in communications ideally in the NGO/charity sector
- Excellent producer of content. Able to understand ISSUP’s key messages and stakeholders and produce relevant and engaging content for website, newsletter, social media, leaflet, power points, etc.
- Excellent writing skills, including being able to write for different channels and audiences
- Experience of using website content management systems, social media tools and email marketing campaigns
- Experience of using communications data including website and social media analytics tools for reporting and analysis of ISSUP’s communications
- Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO)
- English speaking (native or CEFR C2)
- Show and use initiative
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Able to plan, organise and prioritise your own work
- Able to work under pressure of events or ISSUP communications deadlines
- Creative thinker, able to think outside the box and develop new and interesting concepts and ideas for action
- Team-player: Able to communicate and integrate within a small team
- Willing / able to travel internationally at least 1 – 2 times per year
