The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry.  The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.  

We are looking to recruit 2 research assistants to work on a programme funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the Wellcome Trust exploring the effects of conventional antidepressants and novel therapeutic strategies in depression.

About the Role

The post is funded for 12 months and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.  

You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the research project.  You will recruit and screen patients with depression as well as healthy participants. Outcome measures involve changes in cognition and emotional processing, measured using fMRI, behavioural cognitive testing and physiological measures.  This study will require adherence to Good Clinical Practice and liaison with medical and nursing professionals at the NIHR Clinical Research Faculty.

 

About You

You will have a first degree in relevant discipline (e.g. Neuroscience, Psychology).  Demonstrable research experience, including the ability to independently manage the day-to-day running of a research project including scheduling assessment sessions and liaising with other researchers and staff at multiple sites is essential.  You will also possess sufficient specialist knowledge in cognitive neuroscience, psychopharmacology or clinical psychology and experience running psychological tasks in human participants.  A Master’s degree in a relevant subject and experience of analysing fMRI data would be desirable.

The Policy and Research Intern will work in collaboration with the Ontario Brain Institute and CCSA’s research and policy teams. The intern will help establish a national network for Canada’s brain economy and will work with the network to identify opportunities for policy action, partnerships, and innovation in this emerging sector. This six-month internship is designed not only to contribute to research, analysis, and policy development but also to give the successful candidate meaningful exposure to research management, product development, governance, and administration. The position is well-suited for someone who wants to bridge advanced academic training with real-world policy, strategy, and innovation experience. 

The internship offers direct experience in policy development, strategy, and innovation, exposure to governance, research management, and partnerships, opportunities to present work to leaders and partners in the brain economy space, and mentorship and career development in applied policy and innovation.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Research and Evidence Gathering

  • Conduct literature reviews and jurisdictional scans on policies and practices shaping the brain economy.
  • Identify and assess Canadian and international models of community action and innovation.
  • Identify and gather indicators and data / statistics to support the Canadian brain story including productivity, workplace, health, economic and social impacts.
  • Identify, gather and analyze relevant data and evidence relating to scientific (neurological and brain health), economic (lost productivity, workplace losses), social (health, substance use) narratives to support the Canadian brain story.
  • Prepare evidence review of brain economy trends, opportunities, and best practices.

Policy and Framework Development

  • Draft evidence-based policy options and strategic recommendations in line with Government of Canada priorities.
  • Contribute to the design of a practical Community Action Framework that supports collaboration with Canadian partners.
  • Prepare a set of actionable, evidence-based options to guide decision-makers in advancing the Brain Economy.
  • Develop briefing materials to support discussions between the CCSA and partners towards developing a Draft Community Action Framework on the Brain Economy.

Mapping and Engagement of Key Collaborators and Partners

  • Identify and profile Canadian partners and collaborators across government, academia, private sector, non-profit, Indigenous, and community-based organizations.
  • Support engagement strategies and prepare briefing materials.

Writing and Knowledge Translation

  • Develop reports, briefing notes, and presentations tailored to decision-makers, funders, and community audiences.

Innovation and Professional Exposure

  • Participate in activities that provide insight into product development, business development, governance, finance, and research management.

Role Purpose

The Operations Assistant will play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of the organisation by managing operational, HR, and administrative functions. This role will support staff across the organisation, coordinate resources, and act as the main point of contact for internal and external operational matters.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations & Administration

  • Organise and hold regular staff meetings, including preparing the agenda and compiling notes and follow up summary documents.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection legislation and organisational policies.
  • Maintain oversight of office equipment, supplies, and facilities management.
  • Manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring value for money and effective service delivery.
  • Review and check expenses are in line with our expenses policy.

2. Governance & Board Support

  • Coordinate Board and committee meetings, including preparing agendas, papers, minutes and action items.
  • Support governance processes and maintain accurate records.
  • Liaise with Mark Lacey, Legal Advisor where necessary.
  • Create, monitor and update organisational policies.

3. Travel & Logistics

  • Make travel bookings where requested in the most cost effective manner in line with relevant policies.
  • Support the National Chapters team with travel arrangements if a large meeting is taking place.
  • Organise the annual in person staff meeting including travel, location & food bookings.

4. Staff Support & wellbeing

  • Coordinate staff development and wellbeing support systems, including appraisal meetings, manager check in meetings & well-being support.
  • Complete HR administration, including liaising with the HR Consultant on contracts and associated contractual documentation in line with our policies and procedures.
  • Support with recruitment, new starter onboarding, and induction processes.
  • Support staff in using ISSUP tools, IT & working processes.
  • Act as the first point of contact for HR queries, seeking advice from our HR Consultant where required.

5. Support to the Chief Executive

  • Manage the CEO’s calendar, appointments, and travel arrangements.
  • Screen and manage emails, calls, and messages, responding where appropriate.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread documents, speeches, or correspondence.
  • Draft or coordinate thank-you letters, updates, and briefings for donors or partners after major events or milestones.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong organisational and coordination skills.
  • Experience in HR, administration, or operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident in working with confidential information.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be part of a Website & Communications team contributing to the tasks below.

1.     General:

  • Create and implement the communications strategy

3.     ISSUP Events:

  • Support the creation of ISSUP event marketing materials and documents (e.g. flyers, presentations, programme booklet, certificates, etc.) for in-person events and webinarS
  • Create and implement event communications strategy
  • Coordinating with the events team and the National Chapter team to put out conference and programme information
  • Provide on-site event coverage, including live social media updates, photography, and short video recordings to highlight key moments and increase audience engagement

4.     ISSUP National Chapters:

  • Promote the National Chapters via ISSUP communications

Skills and Experience:

Working as part of a small team, you will be enjoy working within a team environment as well as being confident to work independently on tasks and projects. You will be an outstanding communicator with a proven ability to translate complex information into engaging content. Some knowledge of drug demand reduction or related healthcare fields would be helpful for this role but is not essential.

  • 2-3 years’ experience of working in communications ideally in the NGO/charity sector
  • Excellent producer of content. Able to understand ISSUP’s key messages and stakeholders and produce relevant and engaging content for website, newsletter, social media, leaflet, power points, etc.
  • Excellent writing skills, including being able to write for different channels and audiences
  • Experience of using website content management systems, social media tools and email marketing campaigns
  • Experience of using communications data including website and social media analytics tools for reporting and analysis of ISSUP’s communications
  • Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO)
  • English speaking (native or CEFR C2)
  • Show and use initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Able to plan, organise and prioritise your own work
  • Able to work under pressure of events or ISSUP communications deadlines
  • Creative thinker, able to think outside the box and develop new and interesting concepts and ideas for action

Position Summary

The Faith and Youth Project Coordinator will support the delivery of ISSUP’s Faith and Youth Workplan 2025–26, advancing engagement with faith-based and youth partners across regions.

The postholder will be responsible for organising, events, communications, and partnerships that strengthen substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery initiatives among faith communities and young people. This includes organising webinars and training events, supporting National Chapters, producing learning materials, and building networks that foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1.     Faith-Based Initiatives

  • Coordinate regional and global faith-based activities including:
    • Knowledge exchange sessions with Catholic and faith-based leaders.
    • Virtual meetings and online networks for traditional leaders in Africa in collaboration with the African Union.
    • Skills-building workshops with mosque-based leaders.
    • Training activities for clergy and community leaders to deter youth involvement in illicit or criminal activity.
  • Produce and promote webinars, podcasts, and online content relevant to faith-based substance use prevention.
  • Moderate online discussions and networks supporting faith-based engagement.

2.     Youth Engagement and Network Development

  • Support the development of a vibrant ISSUP Youth Network engaging adolescents, students, and young professionals.
  • Organise webinars, newsletters, and online content tailored to youth audiences.
  • Facilitate and encourage youth involvement in ISSUP’s in-person and virtual events (e.g., conferences, webinars, and National Chapter activities).
  • Collaborate with youth and early-career organisations to create shared activities and resources.
  • Support youth representation in National Chapter structures and promote leadership opportunities.

3.     Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Engage and coordinate with faith-based organisations, National Chapters, and youth networks to implement workplan activities.
  • Liaise with international partners to strengthen collaboration.
  • Support event planning and logistics in coordination with ISSUP’s Events and Communications teams.

4.     Communications and Knowledge Management

  • Contribute to the creation of online learning materials, success stories, and case studies for the ISSUP website and Knowledge Share.
  • Ensure activities and dissemination of outcomes are accurately documented via newsletters, webinars, and social media.

5.     Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track activity progress and report against the Faith and Youth Workplan indicators and deliverables.
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reports for donors, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation, databases, and records of partnerships and events.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Theology, Youth Development, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in project coordination, preferably within an NGO or international organisation.
  • Experience working with faith-based organisations and/or youth development programs.
  • Experience in communicating and building positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills including writing reports, newsletters or social media posts.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages (French, Spanish, or Arabic) are an advantage.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Commitment to ISSUP’s mission of promoting evidence-based approaches to the substance use field.
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse faith and cultural contexts.

Under general supervision, the Research Assistant will work under general direction to support the Research team and Director with a variety of research activities across a range of different projects with the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA).

NCETA is an internationally recognised Research Centre that works as a catalyst for change in the alcohol and other drugs field. A collaborative venture between Flinders University and the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, NCETA is located within the College of Medicine and Public Health and is part of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) at Flinders University in South Australia. NCETA is a key national research centre in the alcohol and other drug field. The Centre works to reduce the harms from alcohol and other drugs from prevention through to treatment. A key focus of the Centre is workforce development (WFD).

The Department of Child, Youth, and Family Studies (CYAF) is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track (9-month appointment) Assistant Professor with a focus in the areas of rural mental health and/or substance use to begin August 2026. 

 

The successful candidate will bring expertise in research and teaching that will contribute to the national and international reputation of our programs, department, and university. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Rural Drug Addiction Research (RDAR) Center (https://rdar.unl.edu/), an NIH-funded Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), to engage in cutting-edge research that builds on the strengths of the RDAR Center. The faculty member will be well positioned to leverage RDAR Center data to better understand the causes and consequences of substance use and related outcomes, and to inform prevention and intervention approaches.

The candidate’s teaching and research will complement existing departmental focus areas (e.g., early childhood education, child development, adolescent and young adulthood, trauma, and health disparities across the life course). The successful candidate will conduct innovative research and provide high-quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Human Development and Family Studies and Global Family Health and Well-Being programs in the CYAF department. 

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science/Studies or a related social science field (e.g., Sociology, Psychology) by the time of appointment. The position emphasizes rural mental health and/or substance use, broadly defined. Applicants whose research addresses related factors, such as behavioral health disparities, access to care, community well-being, prevention, or intervention in rural contexts are encouraged to apply. Candidates should clearly explain how their research contributes to the broader field of rural mental health and/or substance use. The jobholder will work as a second national expert (SNE) under the supervision of the Head of the crime, markets and precursors (CMP) sector within the Policy, crime and markets (PCM) unit. The SNE will contribute to the development, further enhancement and promotion of the competences of the EUDA in drug markets, crime and security, particularly the practices of law enforcement. The post supports the EUDA's goal to contribute to a more secure Europe.

The successful applicant will be requested to perform the following main tasks and responsibilities:

  • assist in the conceptualisation, development and implementation of the monitoring of drug markets and crime in Europe, particularly in the field of law enforcement;
  • contribute to the development of high-quality data reporting tools and instruments;
  • liaise with relevant operational, policy and information collection bodies at national, European and international levels and with relevant scientific EUDA staff;
  • support the development of the EUDA Reference Group on drug markets and crime;
  • analyse and report on European data on markets, crime and drug supply reduction;
  • monitor and analyse the main developments in drug-supply reduction activities and policies in Europe with a particular focus on law enforcement bodies and organisations;
  • carry out the administrative and organisational tasks necessary for the successful implementation of the above-mentioned activities and tasks (including the preparation of work plans, meetings, contracts and ad-hoc reporting tasks);
  • represent the EUDA in relevant scientific and institutional meetings and training events;
  • any other tasks assigned by the Head of sector or the Head of unit.

The jobholder may be required to contribute to other areas of work, according to the needs and priorities of the EUDA. To perform the duties of the post and ensure effective communication with the different actors and stakeholders involved, the main working language required for the job is English.

The Overdose Prevention Engagement Network (OPEN) at the University of Michigan invites applications from exceptional early-career research investigators for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pain/Opioid Outcomes Research. Fellows will gain deep expertise in advance pharmaco-epidemiological methodologies, claims and linked administrative data, and evaluation of controlled substance prescribing patterns and outcomes in acute and chronic pain populations. Training includes analytic skill development, manuscript preparation, project management, and grant writing, supported by mentorship from NIH-, PCORI-, and CDC-funded investigators within a nationally recognized research network. Through close collaboration with faculty mentors, fellows will clarify a research focus, build an individualized career development plan, and product work that directly informs policy and practice. The programs goal is to prepare fellows for independent, externally funded academic careers in pharmacoepidemiology or health services research.

The Research and Policy Analyst use their foundational research training and experience to conduct substance use and addiction-related research projects working closely with senior researchers and with guidance/support from their supervisor. Research

Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO, www.youthhubs.ca) is a network of 32, Integrated Youth Services (IYS) hub networks that currently operate in 40 communities, where young people ages 12 to 25 years have walk-in access to youth-centered, community-based mental health and wellness services.

Position Description

Reporting to the Manager of Site Implementation and working closely with the Director of Clinical Practice and Implementation at YWHO, the Integration and Implementation Lead will lead the development of consistent, high quality knowledge, evidence, and resources to support capacity building, decision-making, program development and implementation relating to youth mental health and substance use and the YWHO model of care. The Lead will be responsible for leading the development and review of knowledge products and resources to support integrated knowledge exchange and the management and mobilization of knowledge amongst service providers, knowledge users, researchers, policy makers, community members, and additional YWHO stakeholders. The Lead will oversee the development, refinement, evaluation and mobilization of curricula and training materials for YWHO Networks and partners across Ontario, including onboarding, coaching and supervision to the Knowledge Mobilization team within the YWHO PO in collaboration with YWHO Leadership team.

The Integration and Implementation Lead will lead a variety of activities, including:

  • Gathering, analyzing and synthesizing research, evidence and other forms of knowledge to inform best practices for youth with substance use and/or mental health concerns, practice innovations and capacity building initiatives.
  • Planning, designing and developing curricula for trainings, workshops, and other knowledge exchange activities for YWHO staff, partners and additional service providers across the province.
  • Creating and conducting needs assessments and environmental scans, identify key competencies needed for the implementation of all YWHO core components, define educational goals, objectives, and methodologies, and determine training formats.
  • Determining and allocating work assignments of Knowledge Mobilization staff and providing direction, support and coaching to team staff in collaboration with the Manager of Site Implementation, Manager of Evaluation and other relevant members of the YWHO Leadership team.
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with key partners at the local, provincial and national level and working closely with YWHO partners and other experts to guide this work.
  • Working in collaboration with the Manager of Site Implementation and the Manager of Evaluation to establish evaluation plans for knowledge exchange activities.
  • Participating in the development of the youth mental health field in Ontario and Canada though conference presentations and workshops.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external partners involved in child and youth mental health and substance use programming and knowledge exchange work.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Bath Mental Health Research Group (MHRG) at the University of Bath. The MHRG is funded for an initial 5 years by the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research). Our partnering, charity UK SMART Recovery, provides free, science-based, weekly mutual-aid support for 5000 people recovering from addictive behaviours. This Accelerated Knowledge Transfer Partnership will carry out a process evaluation of an intensive recovery event which innovatively combines SMART principles with equine therapy, over the course of two weekends.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  1. Liaise with our knowledge exchange partners and recruit participants.
  2. Conduct in-depth interviews in person across the UK or online.
  3. Ensure the accuracy of digital transcripts and conduct thematic analyses of these.
  4. Lead on disseminating findings in formats that are (i) useful for UK SMART Recovery and (ii) contribute new knowledge to the field.   

Additionally, it will explore systematically with a variety of stakeholders the feasibility of integrating SMART principles into intensive recovery events, providing a codified framework and toolkit to the charity, in support of future similar endeavors. In so doing, it will create a repeatable operational model to broaden the support UKSR offers and to partner with other organisations in therapeutic delivery.

The University of Houston Tillman J Fertitta Family College of Medicine (UHCOM) announces a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The position is available beginning September 1, 2025 or after to work with James H. Bray, PhD in his Family Health Laboratory and other BSS faculty. The FH Lab investigates family and developmental factors that influence adult, child and adolescent adjustment, behavioral problems, alcohol and substance abuse, and health. In addition, the lab develops and evaluates prevention and intervention methods that promote healthy behaviors and ameliorate problem behaviors and substance use in family and school settings. The lab is currently using AI to develop apps for evaluation and intervention for substance use problems in collaboration with computer scientists.

Post doc is expected to work full-time for one year, with possible extension to two years. Post doc will help Dr. Bray manage his laboratory, conduct new studies, conduct analyses of existing databases and help prepare grant applications for future funding. Post doc will help with laboratory development, organization and training. Post doc will also help supervise students and other trainees.

Post doc needs to have advanced data analytic skills including structural equation modeling, growth curve modeling, and longitudinal data analyses (using MPlus) and be interested in applying those to existing data sets. Existing datasets include the following: Development Issues in Stepfamilies Research Project, Adolescent Alcohol and Substance Use Research Project, Pregnant and Post-partum women in recovery, Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Project.
